Dear John, It is now two years since we took delivery of our Steber "Persuader 22" and it is timely that I record our experience with the boat, as well as your service and support. When we purchased the vessel, I was based in Dubai, as Executive General Manager and Minister (Regional Trade Development) for the Australian Trade Commission. When planning our retirement in 2002 and our return to Sydney, Julie and I undertook a comprehensive search for a family boat for day/week for use in Sydney Harbour. Our requirement was for a boat that was suitable for family cruising and entertaining our guests. Primary requirements were: - Ease of handling, safety and seaworthiness - Simplicity of operation - simple mechanics and electricals - Quality of finish - Value for money - Flexible configuration for family use and for entertaining The Steber 22 has totally exceeded our expectations. The well-proven hull is most seaworthy and the generous flared bow provides a large area in the forward cabin. I regularly encounter strong swells across Sydney Heads as well as short seas during the Sydney Westerly season. The boat handles these conditions with ease and for an inexperienced boater provides a high level of comfort and assurance. I have never felt this boat will let me down in a rough seaway. The boat has proved a delight to operate and incorporates a host of value-for-money features. Dear John, I am putting a few words together to let you know how much we are appreciating our new boat. As you know, we have previously been the owners of fairly big boats on Sydney Harbour. Our last boat was a Ocean Alexander 44' displacement cruiser. But when we acquired our waterfront weekender at Woy Woy we were constrained by the fact that we had to now find a boat the would pass safely under the rail and road bridges. We were limited to a boat height above the water line of 2.2m and we were not interested in outboard or stern drive propulsion. Speed was not an issue. Essentially our goal was to find a comfortable day boat for up to six passengers and a craft that also had the facilities for us, as a couple, to stay out overnight. We therefore needed a toilet and galley. The other major criteria were low maintenance and ease of handling that allowed one person to manage all the tasks of berthing. Our search for the required craft was initially frustrating. For a while there appeared to be only one boat that met all our criteria. But this boat seemed, to us, to be very expensive for what it offered. then we luckily came across a photo of the Persuader on the website of one of your distributors. We were immediately attracted to it by its appearance and then after reading the specifications and the options we were keen to have a look at one. A first hand inspection confirmed our hope. It was just what we wanted and it was $20, 000 less that its competitor. The internal configuration and the quality of its build immediately impressed us. Our only criticism in that whole exercise was the fact the the boat was so hard to find. It is a secret that needs to be shared. There must be many couples like us who are on the verge of retirement and who are looking to downsize their boating commitments, but not their boating fun. The boat is only one quarter the size of our previous cruiser. But it requires very little maintenance and it seems to go forever on just a few litres of fuel. Cruising at 12-14knots is plenty fast enough for our kind of boating. So, for a fraction of the size, for a fraction of the maintenance, and for a fraction of the cost, we now have a boat that satisfies all our needs and gives us more pleasure than we would have imagined. We have no doubt that one people learn of its availability, the Persuader 2200 will form its own niche market. Congratulations to you and your sons for building such a wonderful Australian product. Dear Mr. Steber, I am writing to thank you for the work you did on my boat a few weeks ago, which has left it better than ever, and would wish to say that I would only too happy to speak to anyone who was planning to buy that type of boat, or to use this letter as a testimonial.
